Suborder "Pinnipedia" is comprised of three well defined families:
Pagophilic ("ice loving") pinnipeds inhabit two forms of ice:



          Odobenidae (Odobenids) ... walruses
          Otariidae (Otariids, or eared seals) ... sea lions, fur seals
          Phocidae (Phocids, or non-eared seals) ... true seals & elephant seals
          Fast Ice (connected to land)
          and/or
